Rookie Firefighter

The East Manatee Fire Rescue District is developing a hiring list for FY 2024 – 2025 for the position of Rookie Firefighter. At East Manatee Fire Rescue, all firefighters are required to be Florida registered EMTs or Paramedics.  We will be accepting applications at our 3200 Lakewood Ranch Boulevard office from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on July 16th and July 17th.  Applications must be hand delivered.  The successful applicants will move onto the written test on August 7th

In the past, applicants have been allowed to “camp out” in line before the office opened.  This will no longer be allowed as there will now be a large window that applications will be accepted and there will not be any limit to how many applications we accept.  All successful applicants are eligible to test.  

The Rookie Firefighter position is in the Florida Retirement System and the anticipated annual salary is $62, 000.00.  All new employees hired after October 1, 2017, as a condition of their employment, shall sign a non-user of tobacco affidavit agreeing that they will not be a user of tobacco or tobacco-like products on or off duty for the duration of their employment with the District.  These products include, but are not limited to, smoking cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, chewing tobacco, electronic cigarettes, nicotine gum, and nicotine patches.  The application process is as follows:

  1. Use the  Employment Application link to print the application.
  2. Fill out the application completely. If handwritten, print legibly. Sign and date the application.
  3. If you are claiming veterans’ preference, use the Veterans’ Preference Certification link to print and complete the claim form.
  4. Provide copies of the following required documents with your application:
    1. High School diploma or equivalent
    2. Valid Florida driver’s license
    3. Current Florida EMT certification (and paramedic, if applicable)
    4. Florida Firefighter II certification
  5. Provide the following optional documentation:
    1. Completed Veterans’ Preference Claim form
    2. Resume’
    3. Other related training certificates, qualifications, letters, etc.
  6. Staple all paperwork together.
  7. Application must be hand delivered.
  8. Application will be reviewed for completeness upon receipt and will not be accepted if it is not complete or if all required documents are not attached and correct.
  9. Applicants who have NOT provided completed applications by the deadline will NOT be considered any further and will be dismissed immediately from the application and testing process.
  10. Applicants who HAVE been accepted will be provided further information regarding the testing process.

Manatee County Extends Burn Ban

MANATEE COUNTY, FL (June 3, 2024) – Due to the continued hot and dry weather, the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has voted to impose a ban on all outdoor burning and the use and discharge of fireworks and sparklers in the county, effective immediately.
